Bakuchiol is a natural meroterpene compound extracted from the seeds and leaves of the Psoralea corylifolia plant, traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. In recent years, it has gained significant attention in skincare as a plant-based, gentler alternative to retinol. Like retinol, bakuchiol stimulates collagen synthesis, reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and improves skin elasticity and pigmentation. However, it achieves these effects through a different signaling pathway and is not associated with the irritation, redness, or photosensitivity commonly seen with retinoid use, making it suitable for sensitive skin and daytime application.
