N-Acetyl-L-cysteine Ethyl Ester (NACET) is a lipophilic derivative of N-acetylcysteine (NAC), designed to enhance cellular bioavailability and blood-brain barrier penetration. By esterifying the carboxyl group, NACET exhibits increased membrane permeability compared to NAC, allowing for more efficient delivery of cysteine-the rate-limiting precursor for glutathione synthesis. Once inside cells, it is rapidly hydrolyzed to release cysteine, thereby boosting intracellular glutathione levels and exerting potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
